Like the Moon

Meditate.
Live purely. Be quiet.
Do your work with mastery.
Like the moon, come out
from behind the clouds!

Shine.

Buddha.

On the paths of life...

YOU ARE NOT STUCK
IN TRAFFIC,
YOU ARE TRAFFIC.

This is an advert for TomTom running in the UK at the moment. Frankly, I don't know how to better explain the meaning of Life... Whoever thought that one was a genius!

Stars

Going home,
The London sky
Shines 23 stars.
Where are the millions
more of the milky way?
Oh wrong we did,
Will the kids forgive us?

Woman flogged in Sudan, caught on YouTube

I am struggling to see where the news is around that article today in the Guardian.

This is no news that Sharia law was implemented in the North of Sudan since 1991: it applies to all inhabitants regardless of their religion, although 70% of the population is Sunnite. Should we judge another country's rule of law?

For all I know, this woman could have been a friend of the Janjaweed who decimated Darfur, in what was in my opinion one of the most shocking reports I have read about women and (civil) war: complicity in rape. When women turn on women, the backbone of society has gone: men have free hand to rule, free-wheel to madness.

A similar mental shock made me shiver when the first female Palestinian suicide-bomber exploded: what kind of desperation (brainwash?) would push a woman to such an extremity, what conditions of life would create such a monster, the anti-thesis of life?

What is visible in that video is how casual the audience seems to take this, how routine this must be. What is not visible in that video, is everything else they have endure, from stoning to abuse, domestic violence, female genital mutilation (90% of Northern women according to the Sudan Tribune, 2005) and too much more.

How can we make this end? What are the root causes? To whom does the crime profit? What are Sudan's resources (oil...)?

To finish on a note of optimism, here is an extract of the 2008 Independence speech of Address of H.E the President of the Republic (in full here):
together with the struggle of the Sudanese Woman and the [sufi] mystic sects along with the Imams [leaders] of the mosques.I renew and confirm before you my insistence on the implementation of this directive . Brothers and sisters our celebration today constitute a stop that links the history of our nation to her present and future , from history we refer to the national unanimity whose voice had been louder the voices that instigated separation and anarchy.

Action and Reaction

Action and Reaction are the essence of life. There needs to be a balance between the two, a dynamic healthy exchange. From couch potato to provider: today I have started to publish my art work. Follow the link to the auction page on the right hand side!
